"Madam President, cyber-security is a real issue. Cyber-crime knows no borders and international cooperation is needed. This report will help EU countries to work together to prevent and detect network disruptions in critical infrastructure like banking, energy and air traffic control. Member States will set up their own expert teams, share early warnings of risks and learn from each other’s experiences. National security will not be compromised, as Member States will not be forced to disclose sensitive information. Online companies were concerned about bureaucracy if they needed to report the same incident 28 different times, so we have a light-touch, common approach agreed to address this. It has been an extremely complex and sensitive negotiation, which has taken three years to agree. As we negotiate our new UK-EU relationship, I hope space and time will be given for us to continue to work together, when necessary, on security issues such as this."@en1
