"As longstanding European Parliament Rapporteur on Corporate Social Responsibility, I welcome this report and am grateful for support for my own amendments referencing the framework of the International Integrated Reporting Council, towards the EU itself adhering to the OECD Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprise and reiterating our call for the EU to engage constructively in the UN Working Group for a treaty process on business and human rights.
In this debate, I draw attention as well to the importance of the ‘Compass’ which is enabling business to measure its contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and to the Long-term Investment project being undertaken by the UN Principles for Responsible Investment.
I particularly welcome support for the concept of a ‘Sustainable Capital Markets Union’. As I said to a recent meeting of the European Social Investment Forum on this subject which we hosted in the European Parliament, investors are the key to long-term value creation so that European business can itself be sustainable."@en1
