"The proposal aims to regulate harmful emissions from engines installed in so-called non-road mobile machinery (NRMM), a term which covers a wide variety of machinery such as construction machinery, inland water vessels, trains, chainsaws and generator sets. Emissions from engines in NRMM contribute significantly to the EU’s total polluting emissions. This is therefore an important piece of source-level air-quality legislation to ensure that Member States meet their national air-quality targets set under other EU legislation. I voted in favour of the report as I believe it will bring both environmental and health benefits by reducing pollutant emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydro-carbons (HC), carbon-monoxide (CO), and particulate matter (PM) from engines fitted in NRMM. In addition, my S & D Group colleagues managed to include important provisions on the protection of workers’ health and safety and for the retrofitting of machines already in use."@en1
