"I supported this report on Education and Training 2020 (ET2020) which aims to improve control and coordination of the existing framework (e.g. by extending working groups with various stakeholders, such as civil society representatives, teachers and youth workers), in order to enhance the quality of education and training, and to highlight the migration aspect.
I was happy that the report stressed the need to prioritise the integration of migrants and asylum seekers into the labour market, e.g. by quickly setting up a system of language courses and basic skills training. It is important that past mistakes on immigration are not replicated in the future, for that could lead to integration difficulties in Member States. Thankfully, this report points out the major role of education, training and sport in this process. Better cooperation between the EU and the national authorities is required in order to find the right approach to the full integration of migrants and asylum seekers into education and training systems and to ensure that existing qualifications are properly recognised."@en1
