"I supported the Report. This plan was set up to rebuild Bluefin tuna stock and came after the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas also adopted a multiannual recovery plan. I was happy that the report acknowledged that the Commission’s proposal went further than the ICCAT and even what EU legislation allows for. The aim of the transposition of the ICCAT Recommendations is to have uniform application throughout the EU; it is not to reopen the discussion about what has already been decided. Uniform application should aim at ensuring a level playing field for all operators, including non-EU operators. Otherwise, all the restrictions applied to EU fishermen will have no result, if different rules apply to foreign fleets. Finally, I was pleased that the rapporteur addressed the issue of delegated acts by the Commission. Considering the European Parliament are not negotiating the ICCAT agreement, the co-decision procedure is the only possible way we can influence the transposition of the agreement into Union law. If, in the future, delegated acts were used then it would mean that the Parliament has no say at all in ICCAT negotiations."@en1
