"I voted in favour of this resolution, which is a proposal for a legal act – a regulation on an open, efficient and independent European administration – laying down the procedural rules that shall govern the activities of the Union’s administration. The objective of the regulation is to guarantee the right to good administration enshrined in Article 41 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union by means of an open, efficient and independent administration. The way to do this is by setting up an administrative procedure. The regulation enshrines rights to information, procedural rights vis-à-vis the institutions, the duties of the administration in terms of cooperating with requests, and duties to state reasons for actions, offer remedies and give notification of acts. This regulation is supposed to be an additional tool for citizens, who until now had only the Ombudsman for redress on such matters. I welcome the EU having a system for administrative procedure, as this will improve citizens’ rights and promote consistency and should lead to greater transparency."@en1
