"In the interest of transparency and democracy, I would like to confirm I voted in favour of this proposal to reject the Council´s position on this matter. The EU wants to promote free movement by simplifying the acceptance of certain public documents. This would mean the UK is forced to recognise civil documents produced as part of the right to freedom of movement. This will lead to an enforced lowering of the guard on checking the veracity of the contents and the genuine nature of the document itself. This is a criminal and forger´s dream and is a threat to the security of our country, and it will curtail the UK´s ability to properly check documentation. The case for the need for this legislation has not been made out. The claimed keystone of this regulation is the creation of multilingual standard forms for most public documents concerned. This is clearly the precursor to an EU-wide and EU-controlled system of civil documentation. Finally, as a matter of principle, I disagree with the unelected EU civil servants enforcing legislation on the British people."@en1
