"Mr President, let us remember that the USA is officially our ally, despite the fact that its President’s recent interventions in the UK made me question his personal goodwill. Its security services are not under EU control; nor, thankfully, are the UK intelligence services – undoubtedly the best in the world, and we are very grateful for what they do. Yes, intelligence services should interrogate as humanely as possible; absolutely they should. But their work must not be hampered by politicians and their political principles to the degree where we are put in danger. The human rights of terrorists must never be allowed to trump the right to freedom and safety of innocent citizens. Unfortunately you cannot break a terrorist down by putting them on the naughty step."@en1
