Given the huge economic data trade between the EU and the US and given the fact that a huge amount of the data flow is relied on by SMEs, it is necessary that they are regulated in such a way as to ensure the protection of personal data and to ensure that the principles of the European Union are upheld. The legal certainty for the transfer of personal data between the two parties is an essential element for consumer trust, international business development and law enforcement cooperation and therefore it is imperative that any data transfer is in harmony with EU primary and secondary law."@en1
