"This proposal would see Sweden negate its obligations in relation to the refugee relocation programme. In the initial report Sweden was essentially requesting to be treated like Italy and Greece and to have refugees relocated out of Sweden. This report however seeks to simply suspend Sweden’s obligations to the relocation agreement.
Given the worsening situation in the Mediterranean, the deterioration of conditions in detention/reception centres across Europe and the onset of summer, now is not the time for any nation to shirk its responsibilities to address the refugee crisis. The rapporteur and GUE/NGL have tabled a rejection amendment on that basis. We have consistently called for everyone to play their part in this crisis, and therefore I tabled a negative vote."@en1
