"Madam President, human trafficking is the most despicable modern day act of criminality and we must do everything we can to try to prevent it. So this report is an opportunity to assess the measures taken, the implementation of the directive, focusing on the gender dimensions of victims of human trafficking and trying to identify further steps that may be taken to enhance the effectiveness of the Directive. Focusing on protection of human rights, trafficking from a gender perspective is a priority for the EPP and it is important that we not only work to prevent human trafficking, but protect victims of trafficking and work towards having better cooperation between Member States when tackling these human rights issues.
Ireland is committed to tackling and preventing human trafficking and this report tackles that issue in a largely positive way which we are happy to support and hopefully we can help to move towards reducing and eventually eliminating this despicable practice."@en1
