"Madam President, Commissioner, you would have received letters from me on this issue, and you have heard the word ‘agriculture’ mentioned more than once. Indeed you yourself raised it. So, on point 4 of the question I would like you to give more detail about how you intend to take into account the potential threat to the agricultural sector. I think what worries us is that the initial offer was to come forward with a very – we believe – generous concession to the Mercosur countries on agriculture, and if that was a potential opening offer my fear is what would come afterwards. Maybe you would explain the rationale in the Commission that caused such outrage across the European Union? You know, timing is everything, and it is so in trade agreements. The reality, as Michel Dantin has pointed out, is that agriculture is on its knees. Across many sectors there are real problems, and you eluded very well to the realities of so many deals happening and the need for an overall view of their impact. I would rather that we waited for that impact before we sign any deals."@en1
