"I voted in favour of this report, which calls for both the inception of an Agenda for EU Mountainous Regions and the consideration of the mountain dimension within future programmes and policies of the EU, especially within the ESIF. Overall, I was pleased with the four main areas the report focused on: definition of mountainous regions within the regional policy, a concrete proposal for an EU mountainous policy agenda, coordination of existing EU policies for mountainous regions and a focus on the three types of growth: smarter, sustainable and inclusive growth. The difficulty of investment in these regions, caused by a lack of infrastructure and additional costs due to remoteness, often leads to the disregard of mountainous regions. However, we must remember that as centres of green growth, mountains themselves can be a leading force in sustainable growth within the EU. I believe it is important that we foster and cultivate our mountainous regions in order to achieve better social, economic and territorial cohesion."@en1
