"It is crucial that Community statistics on balance of payments, international trade in services and foreign direct investments are up to date and accurate, historically. I voted in favour of this report on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council which amends Regulation (EC) No 184/2005 because I do not want to see a repeat of the 2008 financial crisis which was, in part, caused by poor quality statistics. We are still coming out the other side of the crisis eight years on, and while the Tories are doing their best to punish the poorest and most vulnerable in the UK for a problem primarily caused by financial mismanagement at the top, it is important that we do not ignore the details. Therefore it is crucial to further harmonise statistics collection in the EU and improve the quality of the data collected."@en1
