"Labour MEPs voted for the report on the protection of trade secrets against their unlawful acquisition, use and disclosure. When it comes into force, this directive will provide important protections and help boost innovation for British SMEs. Contrary to some claims, whistle—blowers and journalists are explicitly exempt from the scope of this law. Labour MEPs and our Socialists and Democrats Group colleagues have also managed to exclude media freedom and freedom of expression in a very clear way from the application of the directive, and have secured strong guarantees on workers’ mobility, workers’ right to information and representation, as well as safeguards for disclosure to public authorities. In addition, Labour MEPS are calling for the Commission to bring forward a legislative proposal to further protect whistle—blowers."@en1
