lpv:spoken text	"As I’ve mentioned before, The European Court of Auditors plays a vital role in the institutions, being in charge of the audit of the EU’s finances and, as the EU’s external auditor, it contributes to improving the financial management of the EU as well as acting as the independent guardian of the financial interests of the EU’s half a billion citizens. In my view, it is vitally important that candidates for the Court are selected based on their suitability for the position, their professional backgrounds, language skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment are all important for considerations. In this case, I abstained, not because I believed that Mihails performed badly in his interview or that his CV does not fit into the criteria that I have set out, but the ongoing process in the regional court in Latvia raises concerns for me. Nonetheless, I wish him luck with his nomination after having received approval in this place."@en1
