"Mr President, thank you for the opportunity to say a few words on this important topic, especially as I come from a small island country, Ireland, where coastal communities are of such vital importance to us, and also I had the privilege of doing an opinion on blue growth in the last mandate. That shows that the opportunities are there to diversify, to innovate and to create jobs in the coastal communities. Fisheries obviously are vital for them and I welcome the suggestions in this report to develop that. Also, it can diversify into other areas. One is the whole area of sport in relation to coastal activities. This is a huge growth opportunity which must be developed. Another is fishing tourism; I was speaking to a man yesterday who told me that in the United States there were ten times more people interested in fishing than in golf. We can see how golf tourism has grown, so these are opportunities which we must help to create for our coastal communities."@en1
