"Mr President, we are talking about better laws and better regulation, and who would discount the idea that we need better laws? The EU certainly does need better laws because, after all, 40 years of EU regulation is leading GDP levels to the lowest they have ever been. EU laws have led to lower productivity, unemployment across the continent at an average of 13% and youth unemployment at an average of over 30%. This is a continent that is dying because of EU laws. But when you look at EU laws, you also have to look at how those EU laws are created. In the United States, you have senators and congressmen who make the laws because the people want them to. In the nation states it is the parliamentarians who make the laws, because the people do. But here in the EU it is civil servants. In reality, the EU stating it wants better regulation is like the captain of a sinking ship shouting out loudly he wants more holes."@en1
