"The situation in Yemen has now become a grave humanitarian concern for the European Parliament. Given the serious risk of increased conflict and worsened conditions for civilians, I believe that it is essential that an initiative to launch an EU arms embargo on Saudi Arabia be implemented. The Saudi-led coalition has conducted airstrikes and a naval blockade in Yemen which has destabilised the region, led to thousands of deaths and consequently broken down its entire internal infrastructure. This clearly presents a serious risk to the stability and security of the region, but also presents a danger to the civilian population who now find themselves on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe. Terrorist groups such as ISIS and AQAP have taken advantage of the worsening conditions by increasing their memberships. Cooperation from both Saudi Arabia and Iran is necessary in order to obtain peace in the region. Peace in Yemen is paramount to the security of the Arabian Peninsula region and for this reason I have decided to vote in favour of the motion."@en1
