There is a need for more compatible systems for the registration and identification of pets. Member States should be encouraged to put in place measures to ensure that their pet registration systems are compatible with one another. Not only would this enable the authorities to trace the movement of pet animals throughout the EU, helping to tackle the growing illegal trade in pets, but it would improve the standard of living for these animals."@en1
