"Whilst I do understand some of the concerns of the proposers of this objection resolution I do not think that opposing the Real Driving Emissions (RDE) testing proposal is the right answer at this time. The introduction of RDE tests for new cars as proposed by the Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles will bring clear reductions in NOx emissions and improve air quality. I do not think we should delay the introduction of RDE testing by months or possibly even years. Current European car emissions tests remain unchanged in almost thirty years and it is critical that we in the European Parliament endorse this latest step towards improving the testing regime. Rejection of this measure does not guarantee a quick revision on more ambitious lines from Member States; more likely it risks prolonged inaction and regulatory uncertainty. So for those reasons I am opposed to this objection."@en1
