"I was happy to vote in favour of this report on the negotiations between the Council, Commission and Parliament on the issue of undeclared work. While freedom of movement has brought many great benefits, in employment, opportunities to travel and link with people all over Europe, one of those benefits should not be the ability to avoid the taxman through undeclared work in other Member States. We need to work at an EU level to tackle this problem. Undeclared work has multiple and highly negative consequences: severe exploitation and precarious working and living conditions for millions of workers throughout the Union, grossly unfair competition that is deeply disruptive to the single market, as well as serious losses to the budgets and social security systems of Member States. In the UK, undeclared work is estimated to be equivalent to 10% of GDP."@en1
