"Madam President, can I just compliment the work of the Petitions Committee, not only as a former member but now as a Member who deals with the issue of international parental child abduction, and I very much welcome the cooperative spirit with which we work in in this area. It is really important that we do that.
A previous speaker mentioned petitions concerning children or difficulties where there are cross-border relationships. I think we’re going to get more and more of these coming to us. We don’t always have a good solution for those who are impacted, but we give – and are charged with giving – some guidance to those who are suffering. They are the most emotional and difficult petitions and queries that we deal with, and I would ask, as we are continuing to operate in this area – so that the work of my office can complement the work that the Petitions Committee is doing – that we work collectively for the review of the Brussels II Regulation. I think that will be crucial for us."@en1
