"Madam President, I first visited this region of Turkey some 15 years ago. A time of martial law, we saw ghost villages, the oppression of the people there, and now we are back to that point. As others have said, that golden possibility of a peace process has been thrown away, not least by a government that could not accept a pro-peace Kurdish-led party beating the prohibitive 10% threshold in the election before last. But we have also seen NATO allies permit Turkish attacks on the PKK in exchange for access to bases in Turkey for attacks on ISIS. The PKK is not ISIS. Yes, it also has carried out attacks against civilians, that must be condemned, but this parity is a really important question that governments need to deal with in order for us to get back to a peace process, and an end to violence across the country, to be able to concentrate on the real threat."@en1
