This is an important legislative change and I am pleased that products will now be subject to a conformity assessment, informing buyers of this, and contact details should be on the product in order to help market surveillance authorities. I support this report and the rapporteur’s calls for linguistic obligations for importers, such as the use of the official language of the importer country in marking their contact details on the equipment and a use of language that is easily understandable for consumers for precautionary instructions. I particularly agree with the rapporteur’s call for an obligation on the manufacturers to ensure that instructions are clear and understandable and to ensure that recorded performances, i.e. to check standards of the protection provided, are all in order.
