"I voted in favour of this report which seeks to reinforce the ECHR, EU Charter, International Covenant on Civil and Political Right and the Universal Declaration on Human Rights in terms of guaranteeing the presumption of innocence and right to be present at trial. There are also provisions enshrining the right to remain silent and safeguards in place for when an accused cannot be present in trial.
These guarantees have been provided for under Irish law for decades, the presumption of innocence being an indispensable part of due process and the right to a fair trial."@en1
