"A Uachtaráin, vótáil mé i bhfabhar na tuarascála seo agus tá áthas orm gur vótáil an chuid is mó de na Feisirí i bhfabhar comh maith mar téann sé le réasún na moltaí atá ann. For instance, the recommendations there include prohibiting public authorities from providing information to the media, if it would demerit the principle of the presumption of innocence. That is a very important point. Not allowing the reversal of the burden of proof principle, not allowing authorities to use force to obtain information from an accused person, and placing very strict limitations on cases where a judgment may go ahead in the absence of the accused. All these elements are crucial to ensure that we have a just and fair criminal system and that the criminal proceedings are done in as a transparent and clear a manner as possible, and this of course underpins what the European Union is all about: a Union of values, respecting the rights of everybody, and this is a very important aspect of it."@en1
