"This report is aimed at boosting economic growth, creating sustainable jobs and empowering women. At the moment, women make up only a third of entrepreneurs; that represents a huge amount of untapped talent. In particular, we need to invest in women’s and girls’ potential to contribute to the digital economy. Some estimates suggest that boosting female entrepreneurship could deliver as much as GBP 60 billion to the UK economy by 2030. Entrepreneurship education and women’s mentorship networks have the potential to overcome gender stereotypes and provide positive role models for girls and young women, especially for those in marginalised and vulnerable communities. Having been involved in successful social entrepreneurship prior to my parliamentary life, I particularly wanted to highlight the important role that social enterprise and alternative business models, such as mutuals and cooperatives, can play in overcoming the obstacles that women face."@en1
