"Mr President, I was happy to support this report as it focuses on women and on trying to encourage them to enter the marketplace and become entrepreneurs or start up their own business. We are focusing on unemployment across Europe and particularly on encouraging SMEs and start-ups. Women have a huge untapped potential there that we need to focus on, and we need to address the issues that are challenging and preventing women from entering the workplace or indeed for having, most importantly, the confidence to start their own business. We hear about many of them, but probably childcare and access to cash would be the two most important. These are broad terms, but we indeed we need to ensure that finance is available and that access to funds is not an obstacle for women. In terms of child care, the support that society can provide – that the governments can provide – in encouraging women is very important. I agree with previous speakers that the state should stay away from behind the front door and let families operate themselves, but certainly we need to ensure that the obstacles in terms of childcare and flexible time are addressed."@en1
