"Mr President, I am speaking as a shadow rapporteur from the Committee on Transport and Tourism. Digitalisation, interoperability and intelligent transport systems are the key to efficient and effective transport systems for consumers, passengers and businesses – whether they be SMEs, start—ups, larger companies – all those that are moving goods and services across Europe. Digitalisation can help make better use of existing capacity and make those businesses more efficient and more effective – and, of course, that all results in the creation of jobs.
It is very important in helping to overcome the challenges and the burdensome obligations of red tape – particularly for those delivering goods – and logistics. We need to get a point where we have e—Customs and do not have drivers of heavy goods vehicles dealing with paper customs clearance forms and all the copies that go with that. This is burdensome, affects competition and reduces the potential for job creation. We also need to get to the point in the tourism sector and the sharing economy where we regulate in this area."@en1
