"Mr President, I wish to thank the Commissioner and our rapporteur, Mr Langen. I am very happy that this report deals with real bread-and-butter issues, and I am referring here to the remarks in the paragraphs on the food supply chain. This is an issue that the Committee on Agriculture is working very hard on. We have concerns around unfair trading practices, and I suppose there is a question, Commissioner, of when unfair trading practices become anti—competitive practices. The issues for us are around the sustainability of the food supply chain in a situation where the suppliers of inputs to agriculture are becoming more concentrated, the processors of agricultural products are becoming more concentrated and the eventual retail markets are in the hands of a very few. This is about choice for our consumers as well as about fairness for our producers. I hope, Commissioner, that you understand these points that I am making and I know that tomorrow we will have an opportunity to exchange views in a meeting on this issue. This is an important matter."@en1
