"Mr President, I would actually like to see more detention, particularly in Calais. Every day we receive reports about violent and aggressive migrants, some with jihadist backgrounds, including the Paris attackers. In Calais British truck drivers are threatened and attacked on a daily basis whilst trying to do their job. We hear appalling stories of British lorry drivers who are threatened with weapons including knives, baseball bats and even guns. Their safety and lives are at risk. Hundreds of migrants arriving in Norway have been found with jihadi pictures on their cameras. Who is checking the Calais migrants? Nobody has a clue what these migrants are doing in the Calais jungle. When are the French authorities finally going to act against these criminals who are threatening the safety of our citizens? Do the authorities really want to risk the first truck driver getting killed before they take appropriate action? If police forces are not able to control the situation, make the army step in to ensure security in Calais just as they do in the rest of France. If the Front National had won the Calais region last weekend a better solution would have been found for the lawlessness in the Calais jungle. Those migrants that commit criminal acts need to be arrested, detained and deported straightaway before it is too late."@en1
