"I supported the report on preparing for the World Humanitarian Summit given it is crucial we have a clear view on challenges and opportunities in this field in the run-up to the Istanbul summit. Given the significant number of grave humanitarian crises around the world, including in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and many countries in Sub-Sahara Africa, it is of paramount importance that the EU, as the world’s most important humanitarian actor, takes the lead during the summit to build partnerships and find common ground on humanitarian principles and international standards, and to enhance cooperation and coordination of assistance. Key action points should include better protection for humanitarian aid workers, more cooperation and complementarity between humanitarian and development policies, and finding new sources for funding. The absolute priority should be the protection of children and their access to education. I therefore welcome that this report calls for specific protection to be provided to children who have fled their homes in a crisis, and notably to the facilitation of their access to education."@en1
