"The idea of the proposal is to make trademark registration across the EU more accessible and efficient. This is to be done by increasing legal certainty by clarifying provisions and establishing better cooperation between OHIM (Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market) and national offices. The laws of the MS relating to trademarks were partially harmonised by Directives 89/104/EEC and 2008/95/EC. The proposal will further that harmonisation. Ireland broadly supports the measures contained within the proposals, which were generally welcomed by our stakeholders, as it was considered that they would constitute positive developments from the perspective of the likely business interests in Ireland, as it is believed that innovative export oriented companies require a predictable and consistent legal and regulatory environment across Europe within which they can exploit the competitive advantage of their intellectual property rights, without undue expense and onerous administrative burden."@en1
