"There were 1 603 redundancies in 69 enterprises operating in the area of computer programming and consultancy in many Finnish regions. This amount of redundancies over a short amount of time can only be attributed to a movement of demand away from these enterprises, either due to these services being provided elsewhere or a loss of interest in this industry. And I don’t suspect it is the latter. The EGF is something that the Tories want to see abolished for ideological reasons. All this while there have been various opportunities for the UK to apply for this funding, with the most recent example being the closure of the steel industry in the UK. I voted in favour of this request because we should show solidarity with the workers of Finland, because it is without a doubt that workers in the UK will need to access these funds, and the EGF can help those who are made redundant by the effects of globalisation and without much cost to the UK Government."@en1
