"Mr President, I was privileged to be one of the official parliamentarian representatives in Paris, and indeed it was wonderful to see it having a positive outcome. For that, great credit is due to the French, who organised everything excellently, and also to Commissioner Arias Cañete and his colleagues, who played a very important part. We were more or less sidelined in Copenhagen, but on this occasion we were centre stage. If you look at the proposals that came through Parliament, by and large, they were accepted. And there was recognition right across the world for what Europe is doing.
Now we have to move on and deliver, particularly for the people we met, like the indigenous peoples and the small island countries, because they are under an immediate threat. That is why we need to move as quickly as possible to 1.5°C, rather than 2°C. For us, we should complete the energy union as quickly as possible and become the renewables capital of the world. In my own country, we have a great opportunity to progress with ocean energy. There is a lot of research being done on that right now and that too can be wonderful."@en1
