"That the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament managed to agree on setting up a new mandate for the Special Committee on Tax Rulings and Other Measures Similar in Nature or Effect (TAXE) is a victory in itself. Moreover, the Committee will not only continue its work as planned, but it will also operate on a stronger mandate. The Socialists and Democrats Group was very much concerned with, and engaged in, securing an extension that, at a minimum, preserved the current committee’s role. Thanks to the new TAXE Committee mandate, we will be able to monitor the Commission and the Member States as to the implementation of the measures laid out in the report that reflects the first six months of the Committee’s work. We must continue to battle tax fraud and tax avoidance. Big multinationals are getting away with avoiding to pay far too much of their fair share, for far too long."@en1
