"Mr President, I would like to thank the Luxembourg Presidency for all the good work they have done on this. They have very much put it back on the agenda, which it should never have left. As has been said by many speakers, companies with more women on their boards tend to perform better than those with fewer. I believe that this, in itself, makes the case, but we are nowhere near parity, as we know. As a result of that, we are of course missing out on a whole pool of talent. Although the number of women on boards has been going up since the Commission draft was published, it is still, quite simply, not enough. It has even gone up in the UK, where about 25% of non-executive directors are now women. As we all know, the Conservative Government in the UK is part of the blocking minority. I have specifically mentioned non-executive directors because that is what this report is about. We need to move on and to make sure that there are more women executive directors ..."@en1
