lpv:spoken text	"Madam President, simplification, in particular of cohesion policy, is certainly needed because, of all the good things we do in the European Union, this is probably the most confusing in respect of application and oversight, etc. Then we add gold-plating, which often makes it even more difficult for would-be beneficiaries and, of course, more costly for SMEs. There really is a need for greater simplification, and I am delighted that the new Commission has put emphasis on that. They will have a field day here, because there is so much simplification needed. I once gave a talk on cohesion policy and I think it was probably the most boring speech I ever gave, because I was trying to explain something that is so complicated, it was almost impossible to put it in simple terms."@en1
