"Madam President, my apologies for not being alert earlier. I support this proposal, I voted in favour of it, and, being a member of the Committee on International Trade, I am, of course, proud of the work that they are doing and will continue to do in the future. Opening up trade is imperative if we want to see sustainable economic growth, in particular in low-income developing countries. It is equally important to implement policies that promote the maximum distribution of trade reforms and counterbalance any negative effects, especially of reforms in areas such as budget transparency and education. I believe we should continue to work in this regard and to play a leading role in promoting tangible progress in the ongoing World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations with a view to the full conclusion of the Doha Development Round in the near future, as well as in facilitating the full participation of low-income developing countries in global trade by acting as a bridge between the various positions and WTO members."@en1
