"Of course I understand that radicalisation of so-called ‘European fighters’ is an incredibly complex and dynamic issue and is based on countless socio-economic and political factors, both globally and locally. The increase of terrorism and radicalisation in recent years has coincided with an increase and upsurge of hate crime and hate speech, motivated by racism and intolerance.
This report addresses many of the issues which are affecting these individuals who choose to go on to commit such heinous acts. Things as simple as addressing the need for a common definition for what constitutes a ‘foreign fighter’ would go a long way to address these problems. Allowing states to exchange information not only to find and capture these people, but also exchange best practice of exit and return checks and freezing citizens’ financial assets, in order to prevent them from taking part in terrorist activities where they could.
