"This is a report that I very strongly supported, because the work of the TAXE committee has shown that tax evasion and aggressive tax avoidance is a problem right across Europe and can therefore only be properly met with a pan-European response. It costs the nations of Europe billions every year: billions that could and should be invested in schools, hospitals and public services. For too long, both governments and multinational corporations have been involved in a race to the bottom on tax – a race in which ordinary people and the services we all use are the losers. This report sets out a number of bold recommendations to stop these dreadful practices once and for all. It is not enough to simply talk a good game about clamping down on loopholes and ending morally-dubious tax practices, it is now time for EU governments – and especially the Tory UK Government – to listen to the will of the people and do something to end tax fiddling for good."@en1
