"The attacks last week in Paris have marked this session with grief, and I deplore those actions that took the lives of 130 innocent people. I want to express my deepest sympathy for the victims and families of those who died last Friday in Paris, and also to those who suffered at the hands of recent terror attacks in Beirut and Mali. Europe is struggling to deal with new and evolving situations, and in this struggle I stand against fundamentalism, against bigotry, against sectarianism and against racism. Allowing any of these ideologies or mind-sets to seep into our society would pose a threat to the peaceful coexistence and democratic future all of us aspire to. We must use our political standing to go beyond these senseless acts of terror and to the root causes of despair in countries such as Syria and Eritrea. We must stand united in our defiance of such acts of murder and united in our solidarity with Paris, and other communities destroyed by violence."@en1
