"We need to offer a future to our next generation by breaking the vicious circle of poverty at the youngest age possible. This means ensuring that every child at risk of poverty has access to free healthcare, free education, decent housing and adequate nutrition. In the last few years, the Commission has neglected this area of work, and it is about time that they put it back on the agenda, be it through pressure from the European Parliament or from the Member States’ citizens and civil society. Europe will fail the current and future generations if it does not address inequalities in access to basic human services, for European children, which are once again widening on our Continent. We call on the Commission to introduce a child guarantee, with a specific fund, ideally with the revision of next year’s multiannual financial framework. The child guarantee could be a long—term tool to offer equal opportunities to a whole generation as well as support for parents to come out of social exclusion situations and to integrate into the labour market."@en1
