"Madam President, I do not think anyone could argue that providing more help for victims and support services is a bad thing. The question in this debate is asking about the accountability and transparency of the funding of projects under this EU programme. In the UK, we have no doubt that the EU is completely unaccountable and undemocratic and squanders taxpayers’ money. If we did not pay GBP 55 million a day to the EU, we could do so much more to support and protect the victims of violence. We would then be able to hold the politicians accountable for their policies, every five years. Not so with the EU Commission. The final point I would like to make is that because of EU free movement laws, we are not even allowed to do a criminal background check on people coming to our countries who have a history of violence. Also, this open-door immigration policy provides the perfect environment for traffickers to exploit and abuse women and children."@en1
