"Madam President, the idea of dealing with the problems of mass migration at source – or as close to source as possible – is one that we welcome. In fact, we have been calling on world governments to provide a global solution within the countries of origin or neighbouring states for some time. But, whilst European political establishments seek to use yet another crisis to demand yet more money from hard—pressed British taxpayers, we say no. There is more than enough money within the EU budget as is. If we stopped wasting this money on non-essential projects and actually channelled these hard-earned funds to lifesaving projects, we might see the public regaining faith in foreign aid. The spending of GBP 500 million on more than 100 publications and 1 000 videos, as well as cartoons, colouring books and other educational material is an example of wasteful spending and arrogance. Instead of promoting our supposed values through propaganda, the EU would be well advised to lead through example by immediately ceasing to spend this money in this way and redirecting it towards measures aimed at solving the refugee crisis."@en1
