I therefore followed the advice of colleagues in voting, who have more expertise on this matter than I do, and voted against the resolution. I am advised that this will create a great financial burden for applicants and could challenge foods which are already legally on the market. Member States could even be deprived of the ability to make an initial safety assessment."@en1
