"The ECR Group has consistently argued for fiscal discipline and a reduced EU budget, one in which the same budgetary rigour applied to national spending is applied to EU spending. True, the migration and refugee crisis present significant challenges that should not be ignored, however we should not forget our key aims in relation to the creation of jobs, promoting growth and competitiveness in the EU. Each one of these is crucial for the stability and future success of the Union and therefore should not be compromised by inflation-busting EU budget increases.
I subsequently support the alternative budget motion presented by the ECR Group which outlines a series of ideas for a less burdensome yet more targeted EU budget.
It is for these reasons that I voted against."@en1
