"Madam President, there are 50 000 long-term unemployed people in my constituency of the West Midlands, and 50% of long-term unemployed people in the UK are from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds. I thought, well 50% – that is a lot. When I sat down to read the papers for this debate I thought I would turn to the section on the 50% – the black, Asian and minority ethnic long-term unemployed – and see what the Council and the Commission and Parliament have to say about them. I thought I would make a cup of tea as it was going to be a long section, since this is very important.
But no. No section! Actually no sentence; not a word about the black, Asian and minority ethnic people that make up 50% of the long-term unemployed people in the United Kingdom. I thought, well that is odd, as there are all the black, Asian and minority ethnic people who work for the Commission and the Council – except, oh no, there are none! These are white institutions that do not care about black unemployment!"@en1
