"On behalf of the local enterprise partnerships, businesses and local authorities in my East of England constituency, I want to record my concern about any provisions for suspension of European Structural and Investment funding. I have been proud to work to help attract one third of a billion to my own region in the last six years, which has played a crucial role at a time of economic crisis. Already, Britain’s Conservative Government has been last in line to get agreement for its operational plan to spend this EU funding in the next period. We must not allow regions to be punished, via the reprogramming or suspension of funding and consequent further deterioration for jobs and business, because of delays and obstructions which are the responsibility of government not of the region. The British Government may be reluctant to claim and spend this money. On behalf of my region, we are not."@en1
